Wheel Make a Change
Needs
Our project started with the idea of helping people with disabilities, especially those who have reduced mobility. Our aim is to help everyone who feels it is very difficult doing daily tasks or other activities in general with a manually used wheelchair and doesn’t have the resources to buy a fully electric chair, as they are very expensive. We are aiming at a target of low-income people, as their reduced mobility reduces their job prospects. With our product, it will be easier for our clients to move around without so much effort, so we expect it to be easier for them to accomplish daily routines and to be hired, as disabled people have the same rights to have an excellent working career as everyone else.
To solve this problem and to accomplish everything we have said above, we came up with the idea of a wheelchair powered by a battery which stores energy collected from the manual use of the wheels. It then sends that energy to the engines (two), making it easier for the users to move around. With this solution, we created a prototype where we show you how it all works and we sustained it with a video, that emphasises the advantages of our project.
This idea differs from others, since it is a much cheaper option, but with the same advantages as the fully electric chair. Our product will be available in our website as well as in stores and in some hospitals too, which are affiliated with us.
As in every other company, we are trying to take profit out of sales, so we will sell it at a price that can keep the company stable and profitable, but without having prices too high for our clients. We are also considering the climate change, as the engines use renewable energies.
Approach
Benefits
As previously mentioned, our chair is different from the fully electric ones, mainly because of the difference in price. Meanwhile those chairs are more expensive due to the amount of technology used, our chair runs on electricity generated by the movement of its wheels during its manual use. With this advantage, we expect that we will be able to reach more people, as it is easily affordable. Besides this advantage, our chair also has a good effect on the environment, as the battery is fuelled during the manual use of the chair, making it sustainable.
Collaboration
To make this project possible and reach as many people as we can, we will try to partner up with hospitals in general, charity foundations, if we also decide to create a charity where we provide our chairs to less fortunate people, with the help of voluntaries, with either money or time, and other charities who want to collaborate with us.
We are planning on selling some of the chairs to hospitals, so they can sell them to their clients, and by doing so reach a larger market. About the partnerships with the charities, we are hoping we can mutually help each other, not only with money, but also with resources, volunteers and promoting each other so they can also reach a bigger audience and develop faster.
Slogan
We are trying to cause a positive impact in the world, by helping to reduce this problem and give wheelchair users an easier life, as they deserve. Together, “Wheel make a change!”
